This Fall at HCL, Ensemble Dal Niente will incubate several new musical projects before they are presented publicly throughout Chicago in major and underground venues.

Some of their Fall projects include the Chicago premiere of Fausto Romitelli’s psychedelic masterpiece Professor Bad Trip. Dal Niente also presents its debut as a featured guest at UNRULY MUSIC, Milwaukee’s new music festival, in a program featuring the world premiere of a new quartet by Aaron Einbond.

Throughout the season, the ensemble will present musical performances, previews, and discussions at HCL.

Ensemble Dal Niente is a 21st-century performing ensemble dedicated to promoting contemporary music through public performance, recordings, outreach programs and collaborative projects. With an artist roster of 20 exceptional performers, Dal Niente is capable of limitless sound combinations. The group often presents music for soloist or chamber ensemble, and when all members are involved simultaneously, the ensemble transforms into a chamber orchestra.

Bringing new music to new audiences in new venues is the ensemble’s mission and passion. Dal Niente’s repertoire includes a vast and comprehensive spectrum of technically demanding 20th- and 21st-century masterpieces that are rarely performed and require a special commitment to detail, precision, and intensity. Each year, the ensemble presents a master series of approximately nine concerts throughout the Chicagoland area, playing to packed halls as diverse as the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, legendary jazz club The Green Mill, the Chicago Cultural Center, Nichols Concert Hall at the Music Institute of Chicago, and Mayne Stage.

In July 2010, Dal Niente received international acclaim at the 45th Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (Summer Courses for New Music) in Darmstadt, Germany, where the ensemble won a prestigious Kranichsteiner Stipendienpriese for being the top performer in the ENSEMBLE 2010 program. As a result, Dal Niente will return to Darmstadt, Germany, in July 2012 as a headline performer and will also co-produce a composers’ workshop where it will work collaboratively with top emerging composers as they create new works.

In addition to producing ambitious concerts of contemporary music Dal Niente strongly believes in the importance of educational outreach. Current outreach programs take place at the Chicago Academy of the Arts and the Musical Offering in Evanston. Dal Niente is the current ensemble-in-residence at Columbia College Chicago, where it performs an additional 15 concerts of students’ works annually. Additionally, the ensemble performs residencies and concerts at universities throughout the Midwest, including Eastern Illinois University, Illinois State University in Normal, Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and North Central College in Naperville.
